Supplier Quality Engineer

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES​

  • Manage and resolve supplier quality issues, including audit planning, inspection, and corrective action follow-up.

  • Report to the Site Quality Manager and support operations in understanding and meeting customer requirements for new material qualifications.

  • Work with purchasing, design, and engineering teams to evaluate and qualify new suppliers and products according to customer and company quality standards.

  • Conduct and lead supplier and customer audits — covering scheduling, execution, documentation, and closure of audit findings.

  • Monitor and assess supplier performance to ensure compliance with quality, cost, and delivery expectations; prepare regular performance reports and supplier scorecards.

  • Review and analyze supplier quality documents (inspection and test reports) to ensure alignment with specifications and standards.

  • Handle rejected materials from IQC, IPQC, OQC, or customers — perform initial analysis, communicate with suppliers, and drive timely resolution.

  • Provide training and technical support to suppliers on quality requirements, continuous improvement, and problem-solving techniques.

  • Define and implement production part qualification requirements based on customer specifications.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors to support overall quality objectives.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Demonstrate strong skills in preventive quality methods, compliance, statistical data analysis, critical thinking, structured problem solving (8D), and business process improvement using key metrics.

  • Experienced in managing supplier quality issues and establishing product and process quality control for equipment assembly lines.

  • Knowledgeable in regulatory compliance, product/process/system audits, and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.

  • Proficient in quality tools and methodologies: Process FMEA, SPC, MSA, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma (DMAIC), 8D, CAPA, and QC 7 Tools (e.g., Pareto charts, fishbone diagrams).

  • Skilled in process data analysis and basic statistics for continuous improvement and performance optimization.

  • Capable of reading and interpreting technical drawings with understanding of GD&T principles.

  • Experienced in conducting supplier audits and collaborating with suppliers to resolve quality and process issues.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and team management abilities.

  • Familiar with SolidWorks, Microsoft Office applications, and measuring instruments such as calipers, height gauges, and CMM.

  • Able to support 6S and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Proficiency in Mandarin is an added advantage when working with Chinese-speaking partners.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical field; Mechanical Engineering background is a plus.

  • 3–5 years of experience in Quality departments within Automation, Machine Maker, Tooling, or Contract Manufacturing industries preferred.

  • Familiar with ERP, MES, Agile, or other relevant shop-floor systems.

  • Proficient in Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, and English for communication with overseas customers and vendors.
